Seriously Ill Aretha Franklin Is Surrounded by Family Members Says Rep

Family members have flocked to Aretha Franklin’s side, her rep tells PEOPLE.

The 76-year-old Queen of Soul has been in ailing health, but has had the support of her family during the difficult time.

“Aretha Franklin has been the Matriarch of the Franklin family since the passing of all of her siblings,” her longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn says. “The love she has for her family is above reproach and was evident in the warm smiles she was able to share with her nephew during his very brief visit two weeks ago.”

“She is seriously ill and surrounded by family members who appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received,” Quinn continues.

PEOPLE reported on Monday that Franklin was in the midst of a health crisis, with a friend of the artist explaining that the singer has “been ill for a long time” and her loved ones have been warned her “death is imminent.”

Later in the day, Franklin’s nephew Tim told PEOPLE that his aunt was surrounded by her loved ones and resting at home. “She’s alert, laughing, teasing, able to recognize people,” Tim said. “Family is there with her. She’s home.”

Reports surfaced late on Sunday that Franklin was gravely ill, with Roger Friedman — a reporter with Showbiz 411 — breaking the news. Detroit news anchor Evrod Cassimy was also in touch with Franklin’s family.

“I am so saddened to report that the Queen of Soul and my good friend, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill,” Cassimy wrote on Twitter. “I spoke with her family members this morning. She is asking for your prayers at this time. I’ll have more details as I’m allowed to release.”

CNN also reported late Monday that the legendary singer is receiving palliative care at home.

Tim told PEOPLE that while the singer “is sick,” her family is “trying to keep her spirits up and go from there.”

“We believe she’ll pull through it, she believes she’ll pull through it, and that’s the important thing,” he said.

Indians Leonys Martin Expected to Make Full Recovery After Contracting a Bacterial Infection

Leonys Martin, a Cleveland Indians outfielder, is recuperating as he battles a severe bacterial infection.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, the Indians confirmed Martin’s hospitalization.

“Leonys has made considerable progress in the last 24-36 hours and is currently in stable condition,” the statement said. “The medical team is optimistic that he will make a full recovery, but progress is expected to be slow and measured in weeks, as opposed to days.”

According to the statement, Martin, 30, first began showing symptoms of the infection after playing in a game against the Minnesota Twins on August 7. The next morning, he was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic for nausea and stomach discomfort.

At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Martin with an infection that stemmed from bacteria in his bloodstream and impacted multiple organs. The infection — which the team has not publicly identified — was not from food and is not contagious, according to the statement.

Chris Antonetti, the president of baseball operations for the Indians, commented on Martin’s condition at the player’s wife’s request, according to, stating, “We don’t know exactly how the bacteria entered his system.”

“It can’t be transferred from one person to the next, but the bacteria somehow entered his bloodstream,” Antonetti said. “We don’t yet know how. I’m not sure we will know how. But, once that bacteria entered the bloodstream, it produced toxins that led to him getting really sick.”

The team added in the statement given to PEOPLE, “Out of respect for the severity of Leonys’ condition and our collective focus on helping him return to full health, there have been no considerations regarding a timeline for his return to baseball activities.”

The team wished him well on Twitter, and several players — including the White Sox’s Jose Abreu — wrote Martin’s name on their hats when the Indians played in Chicago, according to

Trumps Team Files Complaint Against Omarosa as Her Book Claims He Called Son Don Jr a F---up

As the shocking claims from Omarosa Manigault Newman‘s new book about President Donald Trump continue to make headlines, his camp is firing back. On Tuesday, the president’s campaign announced it has filed for arbitration against the former White House aide for allegedly breaching a 2016 nondisclosure agreement, according to CNN.

“Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. has filed an arbitration against Omarosa Manigault Newman, with the American Arbitration Association in New York City, for breach of her 2016 confidentiality agreement with the Trump Campaign,” a Trump campaign official said in a statement to CNN.

Manigault Newman’s attorney, John Phillips, told PEOPLE in a statement: “At this time, we haven’t seen any legal action and don’t have a comment on it. Her legal team will address these matters appropriately as they arise.

“We direct you to this link for some of the analysis we’d point out if we were actually in a position to comment,” he added, including a link to a Lawfare blog arguing that Trump “lacks any authority to censor the unclassified communications of former federal employees.”

The suit is the latest move in a counterattack that Trump and his team are waging against Manigault Newman, whose new book, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House, came out Tuesday. In it, she not only reveals her suspicions that Trump is in a “mental decline,” but also delves deep into Trump’s family drama.

Manigault Newman, 44, claims that Trump is “rough” on his children and was furious at son Donald Trump Jr. after he voluntarily released emails about his Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton.

But the alleged “rough” treatment of his eldest son started long before Trump’s presidential campaign and often took place in front of others during filming of The Apprentice, Manigault Newman claims.

“Don Jr. had to submit to his father’s hazing as well. If Donald didn’t like Don Jr.’s assessment in the boardroom, he’d berate him in front of everyone, using words like wrong and stupid,” Manigault Newman writes. “Don Jr. was clearly terrified of his father.”

She continues, “People interpreted fear as complete and total respect and deference. I did. But now, I see the verbal abuse a
