Proactiv Stands Behind Kendall Jenners Acne Marketing Campaign After Backlash

Proactiv Stands Behind Kendall Jenners Acne Marketing Campaign After Backlash

Proactiv is standing by its market campaign to reveal Kendall Jenner‘s endorsement news after fans called out the brand for releasing apparent misleading teasers prior to the announcement.

“Acne has a terrible impact on your self-esteem; it has a direct link to increases in depression and is a topic that shouldn’t be shamed,” Proactiv’s general manager Marc Kravets told WWD. “It should be an open conversation about getting your skin healthy. Some of that backlash we saw is exactly what we need to address this, and Kendall’s the perfect person to drive that relationship.”

Kendall’s mom Kris Jenner shared a video clip teasing the news on her Instagram before the TV commercial dropping during the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 6, which led some fans to believe the news was something other than a brand partnership.

Veterinary Student Accused of Selling Horses to Slaughterhouses for Meat

Veterinary Student Accused of Selling Horses to Slaughterhouses for Meat

An Alabama veterinary student faces charges after horses she offered to board apparently vanished — and former owners and a sheriff believe she sold the animals to slaughterhouses for meat.

Fallon Danielle Blackwood, 24, who attends Tuskegee University, was arrested last weekend after being indicted on 13 counts of bringing property obtained under false pretenses into Alabama, Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey tells PEOPLE.

According to Casey, Blackwood offered to “re-home horses” for owners who could no longer care for them. But when the owners tried to check in on their horses, they discovered “that wasn’t what was taking place,” says Casey, who adds that the 13 horses specified in the indictment are now likely dead.

Owner Lindsay Rosentrater told Al.com that Blackwood agreed to board her horse, but that when she later asked for a photo of the animal, “she wouldn’t send me one. I asked her repeatedly.”

Rosentrater told the outlet that after investigating Blackwood online, she discovered the student had been flagged by rescue groups for allegedly “doing business with kill-buyers.”

“We have pretty strong indications did get shipped into Mexico for slaughter,’’ Rosentrater told the outlet.

Lisa Rudolph, another owner who said she entrusted her horse to Blackwood, told Fox 5 Atlanta, “They suffered a death that they didn’t deserve,” adding, “I think they were slaughtered.”

Court documents obtained by WHNT state Blackwood was arrested last April in Macon County, Alabama, on an outstanding warrant for similar charges in North Carolina. PEOPLE was unable to obtain specific information on those charges.

At the time, Macon County sheriff Andre Brunson told WHNT owners of the horses involved in the charges were upset. “Thinking their horses were living their life out and then to find out they were slaughtered for different purposes, so it’s just a bad case,” he said.

When asked by PEOPLE if Blount County authorities believe Blackwood sold the horses to Mexican slaughterhouses, Casey declined comment, citing her r

The True Story Behind the Cheney Family Feud Over Gay Marriage and Cheneys Gay Daughter

The True Story Behind the Cheney Family Feud Over Gay Marriage and Cheneys Gay Daughter

As the Dick Cheney biopic Vice draws to a close, it leaves viewers with one of its most emotional scenes: Mary Cheney, the former vice president’s younger daughter, sobbing on the phone to her parents after her older sister has publicly rejected her marriage to her longtime partner, a woman.

Vice, written and directed by Adam McKay, takes some liberties with the life and rise of the VP — but, sobbing or no, the feud it dramatizes in the Cheney family over Mary’s sexual orientation was very much real.

The conflict, which fractured the notoriously close family five years ago, is back in the spotlight thanks to the film, which has drawn serious awards notice and is likely to keep the Cheneys in the headlines through the Oscars.

Here, according to previous PEOPLE reports, other news accounts and statements from the Cheneys themselves, is the true story behind their fight, the crux of which was love — familial and romantic.

Growing up, the Cheney daughters were a vivacious and personable duo: together on the road, handing out pamphlets and swag at campaign events.

“We were as close as sisters can be,” Mary recalled in her 2006 memoir, Now It’s My Turn.

While a junior in high school, Mary came out to her family as gay. Her parents responded with affirmations, though her mother said she was wary of a future made potentially harder by the world’s homophobia.

While little is known about her big sister’s response, the former vice president later wrote that “Liz has always believed in the traditional definition of marriage.”

Long before Liz entered the political arena herself, where she ultimately renounced gay marriage, the vice president seemed to have mastered a tricky balancing act. A leading Republican at a time when the party was campaigning on forbidding gay marriage, he voiced support for Mary, who was then in a longterm relationship with her later wife, Heather Poe.

Still, Cheney made clear his views were personal and he took no sweeping political action, couching the question of same-sex marriage as a states’ rights issue.

During his 2004 re-election campaign, President George W. B

Jayme Closs Relative Was Not Prepared for Horrifying Details of Murders New Level of Terror

Jayme Closs Relative Was Not Prepared for Horrifying Details of Murders New Level of Terror

For several months, Jodie Arnold wondered what exactly happened the night her sweet, fun cousin Denise Closs died. She knew she had been fatally shot, but she knew few details, and her imagination filled in the horrifying blanks.

Those details were spelled out in the criminal complaint against suspect Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, who is accused of killing Denise, 46, and her husband James, 56, so he could kidnap the couple’s 13-year-old daughter, Jayme.

The specifics of the Oct. 15, 2018, crime at the Closs home in Barron, Wisconsin, were worse than she imagined. “I was not prepared,” Arnold tells PEOPLE.

Arnold had hoped that her cousin had died quickly — perhaps while sleeping. Instead, her heart broke when she read in the complaint that Denise and Jayme heard the fatal gunshot that killed James, compelling Denise to call 911. Then, while she and Jayme hid in the bathtub, Denise enveloped Jayme in a protective bear hug moments before her death.

According to the complaint, the suspect asked Denise to put duct tape on her daughter’s mouth. Then, he fatally shot Denise.

“Denise’s last thoughts were probably, ‘My daughter is next,’” Arnold says. “It makes me so heartbroken. It just wrecks me…When somebody dies, it just feels a million times worse when their last thoughts are of utter despair and terror. I had been hoping it had happened so fast that it wasn’t time for her understand.”

The criminal complaint was released by Barron County Sheriff’s Office on Monday. All week, says Arnold, she hasn’t been able to stop thinking Denise’s death.
